Shine a Light on Autism

In honor of World Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd), we would like highlight how you can light the world up blue all month long! Around this time every year, autism organizations around the world come together to celebrate in all kinds of ways. From fundraising to awareness-raising events, people everywhere are working to light the world up in blue and join in the conversation about the Autism spectrum.

Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to enhancing lives today and accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow, are asking that you use the hashtag #LIUB to share your experiences on social media.

The Autism Society, who launched this nationwide effort to promote autism awareness nearly a quarter-century ago, lists just a few ways Autism Awareness Month is celebrated.  One of the most identifiable ways you can show your support is to ‘Put on the Puzzle’.

The Autism Awareness Puzzle Ribbon is, by far, the most easily recognized symbol of the autism community. The puzzle pattern reflects the complexity of the autism spectrum. The different colors and shapes represent the diversity of the people and families living with the condition. The brightness of the ribbon signals hope — hope that through increased awareness of autism, people with autism will lead full lives able to interact with the world on the own terms. By simply pinning it on your shirt, putting a magnet on your car, or making it your profile picture on social media, you are helping to spread awareness. You can purchase one on The Autism Society’s website.

No matter how you choose to celebrate this April, share your stories and experiences with us on social media and by using the Autism Speaks’ hashtag #LIUB.
