» Humanus | A National Charity

Issue: A Human Resources Director had recently been appointed to this charity. One of her remits was to develop a new approach to performance management to support the charity's evolving strategic direction. In addition the charity had undertaken a market-based adjustment to salaries, but had no mechanism for adjusting staff salaries annually or for defining career or pay progression within the organisation.

Solution: Humanus supported the senior management team through a year long change process. This involved working closely with staff project teams and the top management team to:

• develop a competency framework that identified the key behaviours critical to success in the organisation
• define all the roles in the charity, by creating behaviourally oriented role profiles rather than task based job descriptions
• develop a role evaluation process that allocated the roles to a six banded career structure (not linked to pay)
• develop a process for regularly reviewing market pay, and pay progression guidelines, including the introduction of contribution related pay awards.
